Bribery: Delta Commissioner Orders arrest of two DESTMA officials
The Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Mr Vincent Uduagahan has ordered the arrest of two officials of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), for extorting money from motorists in Asaba, the state capital.
Uduagahan who made this disclosure in an interview with newsmen on Monday in Asaba, expressed dissatisfaction to the attitude of the officers to motorists at that front of the Federal Secretariat near the traffic light in Asaba, noting that their arrest would serve as deterrent to other officers with such unruly behaviour.
According to the commissioner the officers arrested motorists with flimsy excuses, lock up their wheels and demanded for certain amount from them without properly booking them for any offense.
“We have received several complaints, adding that the culprits must be arrested and made to write a statement at the police on why they extort and collect bribe from the motorist on the excuse that thy beat traffic light” he added.
